The avian emblem of Quebec
Retour aux pensionnairesThe snowy owl symbolises the whiteness of the Quebec winters, a bird who is established in our semi-nordic climate, its territory extends over vast distances from the arctic tundra of the extreme north of Canada to the north of the USA!
Within the Snowy Owl family, the female & the young male are flecked black or brown. The male as it grows older plumage will develop to be an immaculate white whilst the female will remain flecked for her whole life.
The snowy owl is an owl despite its round head! Indeed, the snowy owl has egrets that make him an owl, but they are only visible if one blows in its feathers!
The Snowy Owl’s diet is primarily lemmings however it is also known to hunt arctic hares, foxes, grouse and sea birds depending on the availability of prey. With the wings extended, they span 1.6m
