The Canadian Lynx is a great feline of the boreal forest weighting between 6kg & 18kg
Retour aux pensionnairesContrary to the cougar the lynx has a short tail. Long legs & large paws enable the Lynx to walk easily on the snow. Around their ears grows protruding tufts of hair. As with all felines, the Lynx is a carnivore. Its main prey is the American Hare, which makes up 75% of its diet.
Being very discreet, we rarely observe the lynx in the forest despite them being ever present. Hunting or escaping, the Lynx is capable of leaping 7 metres at full speed. However it can only maintain full speed over very short distances.
Did you know, in one year a Lynx can eat up to 200 hares
In Quebec, it is in the regions of Abitibi-Temiscamingue, the Cote-Nord & the territory of the St James Bay that the Lynx are the most abundant. The birth of the young generally occurs towards the end of the month of May & the start of June. A litter usually amounts to 3 or 4 kittens, who will be raised & stay with their mother until the following spring.
