The Refuge Pageau is much more than a wildlife sanctuary: it's a non-profit organization that places both wildlife and the community at the heart of its mission. Every year, we take in hundreds of animals in distress, most of them victims of human activity. Our priority is always the same: to care for them, rehabilitate them, and restore their freedom. When release is impossible, we offer them a lifetime shelter, because here, animals are there first and foremost for themselves, not to entertain the public.
But our mission goes beyond caring for animals. The Refuge is also a place of inclusion and human solidarity. Through various programs, we offer adapted and meaningful employment to people with criminal records, disabilities, or mental health issues. These members of our team find a secure routine at the Refuge, a chance to showcase their skills, and a place in a close-knit community. Every visitor who walks through our doors also becomes a part of this mission. By discovering our residents, they contribute to raising awareness and protecting boreal wildlife, while directly supporting the organization's survival.
At Refuge Pageau, we believe that caring for both wildlife and humans contributes to the same balance: a more respectful, inclusive, and vibrant world.
